Segment Integration & Rules

The Segment Integration & Rules allow you to identify users in Segment with Bread & Butter data. Specifically, add the user’s email address and name to Segment.

Integration:

To set up your Segment integration, you will need your Write Key, which you can get by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your Segment Account

  2. Go to Sources in the left menu, and either select an existing source or create a new one.

  3. Click on Settings, then select API Keys.


  1. Copy the existing Write Key, or generate a new key for use in the next step.



To create your Segment Integration in Bread & Butter, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Bread & Butter Dashboard at: https://app.breadbutter.io

  2. Click Logic on the left side menu.


  1. Scroll down to the Integrations section, and click Create New.


  1. In the dialog, select Segment.

  2. Choose a descriptive name for the Integration (note: this can be anything, and you can change the name later).

  3. Enter the Write Key you created in the above steps in Segment.


  1. Click Save & close.

Rules:

To set up a Rule that uses your Segment integration, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Bread & Butter Dashboard at: https://app.breadbutter.io

  2. Click Logic on the left side menu.
  1. Scroll down to the Rules section, and click Create New.


  1. Choose the Segment Integration that this Rule will use.

  2. Then, choose the User Event or System Event that will trigger this Rule.

  3. Give the rule a name so you can identify it in the Rules list, and select the Identify option.


  1. Click Save & close.

Your rule is now set up and ready to go. Whenever a user triggers the user event via your website, the rule will be triggered.
